Day School

Training + Play = Day School

Do you wish you had more time to train your dog? If you don’t have the time, I do. Drop your dog off on Tuesdays and Thursdays for a full day or half day of focused training and supervised play. Each student will have a custom training plan. I’ll work on basic or advanced skills with your dog and than transfer the information to you. Puppy Kindergarten

Rolling Admissions

For puppies from 8 to 18 weeks old

Socialization, management and training are vital for a puppy’s development and future behavior. To get your puppy on the right track, join the rolling admissions Puppy Kindergarten as soon as your puppy is old enough. Each week you and your puppy will learn new skills, practice good socialization with people and pups and have fun. I will cover important topics such as housetraining, puppy nipping, preventing food bowl guarding and chewing.

5 weeks for $100.

Basic Family Dog

Your dog can learn to be a well-behaved family member. Your dogs will learn basic obedience skills such as attention, sit, down, come, stay, loose leash walking, leave it. You will learn to manage your dog and apply the obedience skills to everyday situations.

For puppies and dogs over 5 months of age with no formal training.
Meets one hour each week for 6 weeks. $120
Please do not bring your dog to the first class.

Intermediate Family Dog

Develop your partnership with your dog. This class will help you and your dog strengthen basic obedience skills and to perform them around distractions. The focus will be on teambuilding, come, stay and heeling.

For graduates of Basic Family Dog or equivalent.
Meets one hour each week for 6 weeks. $120.

Advanced Family Dog/Canine Good Citizen

Prepares you and your dog to take the Canine Good Citizen exam or the APDT CLASS tests. The focus will be on developing advanced obedience skills around distractions and in real life situations.

For graduates of Intermediate Family Dog or equivalent.
Meets one hour each week for 6 weeks. $120.

Intro to Rally Obedience

Rally is a fun dog sport where you and your dog can develop your relationship and challenge yourselves to learn new skills and improve the ones that you already have. Rally competitors walk a course with “stations” where you and your dog perform skills that are scored by a judge. In this class you will learn the rally stations, how to work a course with your dog and build your teamwork.

For graduates of Intermediate Family Dog or higher level course.
Meets one hour each week for 6 weeks. $120.

Three Week/One Topic Classes

Everyone has busy schedules and it is sometimes difficult to commit to a 6 week series of dog training classes. Paw in Hand will offer several three week/one topic classes through out the summer. These classes are designed for students who have had some training but want to improve their dog’s skills in a particular area in a short time.

Three Weeks to Better Impulse Control

The environment is infinitely distracting to dogs. Adolescent dogs struggle with this especially. We will work on attention, settle, leave it and stay to help your dog focus and control his impulses.

For graduates of Puppy Kindergarten and above.
Meets one hour each week for 3 consecutive weeks. $60.

Three Weeks to a Better Recall

A good “come” is vital for a dog’s safety. This class will help you teach your dog to come the first time, every time. We will use motivational games to teach your dog to come away from distractions and have a happy, fast recall.

For graduates of Puppy Kindergarten and above.
Meets one hour each week for 3 consecutive weeks. $60

Therapy Dog Preparation

Prepares you and your dog to take the Therapy Dog International or Pet Partners certification. We will work on skills that you and your dog will need to be a successful team for animal assisted activities and therapy work.

Prerequisite: Canine Good Citizen certification
Meets one hour each week for 4 weeks. $80.

Tricks and Games

Learning tricks will teach your dog new vocabulary while having fun at the same time. You and your dog will learn several new tricks each week including back up, beg, hide your face, fetch and many others. Each week we will play a training game to increase your dog’s skills.

For graduates of any Paw in Hand class.
Meets one hour each week for 4 weeks. $80.

Intro to Canine Freestyle Dogwork

Canine Freestyle Dogwork is a presentation choreographed to music that suits the dog. Dogs and handlers will learn the basic concepts of freestyle and to apply them in a creative and artistic way.

For graduates of Intermediate Family Dog or higher level course.
Meets one hour each week for 4 weeks. $80.

Baby in the Dog’s House

North Carolina Women’s Hospital
Monday, February 8, April 4, and June 6, 6:30–8:00 pm

Prepare your dog for the arrival of your new baby. Dogs and babies can get along. We will discuss management and training strategies that parents-to-be can implement before the baby arrives to help your dog adjust to the new addition to the family.
